Cathedral of All Saints → Cathedral of All Saints (Albany, New York) — Shouldn't this be at Cathedral of All Saints (Albany, New York) or even Episcopal Cathedral of All Saints (Albany, New York)? Cathedral of All Saints, Albany, New York → Cathedral of All Saints (Albany, New York) – The above discussion was held in January 2010 and the consensus was that the article should be so named. An editor moved the page again in October 2011. While Albany is an ingegral part of the name of the diocese that the cathedral serves, per the website, the church is named simply Cathedral of All Saints without the location. First Episcopal Cathedral?

The article states that this was the first purpose-built cathedral of the Episcopal Church in the United States. That is not the case. From what I can tell, Bishop Doane wanted to build "the first Episcopal cathedral in America to be conceived and built on the English model of church, hospital, convent and school." In other words, he wanted a cathedral church that was part of a larger complex that would carry out the church's governance, liturgical, and social ministries. All Saints Cathedral, however, was not begun until at least two other purpose-built cathedrals were completed in the Midwest, the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault, Minnesota (1862-1869) and Grace Cathedral, now Trinity Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa (1869-1873). Both Midwest cathedrals were the place their dioceses were governed from. The Davenport cathedral's Dean and Chapter, based on the English model, was not established until 1877 by the diocese's second bishop. Proior to that the bishop was nominally in charge with an "Assistant in Charge" that operated the day-to-day workings of the church. Grace was not a parish church until 1899, and it merged with Trinity parish in 1909 and its name changed at that time. The Fairbault cathedral probably did double-duty as a cathedral and parish church from the beginning. Both Faribault and Davenport had educational institutions operated by the church, but they were not part of the cathedral.

There is a reference cited in this article that is a biography of Bishop Doane, here, that says the Iowa Cathedral was a former parish church, but that is in error. All the resources for Grace/Trinity Cathedral in Davenport say otherwise. Iowa had no cathedral before Grace was built. (The Doane biography says that the Chicago cathedral had been a parish church, and that is true from all that I have read.) This article should be changed. I would do it myself, but I leave it those who have a better feel for this church. Another set of eyes wouldn't hurt either. Farragutful ( talk) 17:51, 30 October 2019 (UTC) reply
