I deleted: "A.P. sang bass, Sara alto, and Maybelle soprano". After listening to a more modern CD of Maybelle singing alone, I really doubt she was a soprano. A Web source seems to indicate that both Sara and Maybelle were altos, but given the doubt, I think it's easier just to omit the assertion. Can anyone confirm the fact of the matter? Traditional voice classifications don't really apply. Maybelle sang higher than Sara, but she was no soprano in the normal sense. Sara sang in what is conventionally tenor range (I am one of those).-- Paul Riedesel 21:01, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Jimmie Rodgers never recorded in Nashville. The 1931 recording session with the Carter Family took place in Louisville, Kentucky.

Just a head's up: in this article when the Carter's are first identified individually the instruments played by Maybelle and Sara are noted, but not A.P. Can someone fix this?

A.P. didn't play any instruments.

Some work needs to be done to disambiguate the various articles and categories relating to singer June Carter and former president Jimmy Carter, who I don't believe are related. There should probably be two articles, with disambig links between the two. Also, the "Category:Carter family" needs to be split, because it has people in it relating to both families...

I looked at the link with the arguments about why this page should be deleted and do not agree with them. In particular I do not agree that mentioning the Carter Family in the Johnny Cash family tree is sufficient. And I don't agree that because there are many families named Carter, this entry should be deleted. This Carter Family was an inductee of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1970. Encylopedia Britannica has an entry for Carter Family, mentioning Johnny Cash almost as an aside because of his marriage to Maybelle Carter's daughter June. Do any of you have access to Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians? "By 1936, A.P. and Sara's marriage had dissolved. Sara married A.P.'s cousin, moved to California, and the group disbanded." This sentence should be at the top of this section to maintain timeline. Or the year should read "1946".

After fixing the broken reference for the material on Bob Dylan's cover of "Wayworn Traveller" and his subsequent of its music use in other songs, I discovered that that original reference did not contained any reliably-sourced information supporting it – only a reader posting a comment with that info. The article remains oddly vague about its actual topic. In the introductory section it says 'Carter Family' was a musical group. In the 'History' section (ff.) all of a sudden it's THE Carter Family that made THEIR first recordings ('their' might still be O.K., I guess). It's never made clear what (The?) Carter Family really is. I expect something like: "Carter Family was a musical group named after their founding member's family name 'Carter'". In the section titled 'Second generation' it eventually becomes obvious that the article actually is NOT about a musical group or band named 'Carter Family' but about a family named 'Carter' whose noted members were musically very influential. Members and descendants of the family named 'Carter' over the years formed different musical groups or worked as solo artists carrying the family name from early 20th to 21st century's music culture and business. I came across this article looking for info on the Gibson L-5 guitar (A famed model played by Maybelle Carter). I'm not particularly interested in any of the family members or associated artists. It's odd that there's no mention of the Carter/Cash marriage (except in the 'extended' family tree), although their offspring is part of the family's?/musical group's? alleged 'Third Generation'. I imagine reading the article on 'The Beatles' when there is not a single sentence about John Lennon and Yoko Ono being married. Only the peculiar mix in their child's, musician Sean Taro Ono Lennon's name in the 'Legacy' section... It doesn' take much. So, I'm going to add it (edit).
