Decided to add a small blurb about Local Culture that was relevant to a large part of Cape Ann, namely "The Island", and to mention the local affection for that name, which comprises everything east of the Annisquam. FYI I am a local resident and so have personal knowledge of this custom, but I have referenced a work which also mentions it. I thought it would bring a bit of interesting color to the article, and since it refers to both East Gloucester and Rockport, the Cape Ann article seemed to be the best place for it. Please feel free to edit it, but I do think it is a nice touch, and is appropriate.

Was it an island before the Blynman Canal was made? The USGS pages on U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: Annisquam River and U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: Blynman Canal seem to suggest this. When was the canal made? Was there an island before that? Seems odd for an island to be named "cape". U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: Cape Ann says it is a cape rather than an island, and locates it right on the island part. Curious.
