Merging two articles on the Alabama Black Belt

The articles Alabama Black Belt and Black Belt (region of Alabama) cover an identical topic and should be merged. I suggest Alabama Black belt is the less developed of the two and should be replaced with a redirect once the merge is complete.-- Chris Jefferies 22:53, 15 June 2007 (UTC) reply

Agreed. Alabama Black Belt was only created on May 2, 2007. It seems to be about both the black belt described on this page as well as Black Belt (U.S. region). Both of these articles are older and more in-depth. Both could use work to be sure, but having a third article is not helpful. I could see three articles if one was on the large racially-based region, one was on the economic/political region of Alabama, and one was specially on the geologic soil-based (physiographic) region that includes parts of Mississippi as well as Alabama. If someone wanted to tackle such a thing that would be wonderful. I'm not up to the task at the moment. Otherwise, yea, if there is anything useful and new on Alabama Black Belt, it ought to be moved to one of the two existing pages, I think. Pfly 01:10, 16 June 2007 (UTC) reply

I also have too many other things going on right now to put a lot of effort into this merge. Here's a suggestion for anyone who wants to tackle the job - how about merging Alabama Black Belt into Black Belt (region of Alabama) first, and once that's complete think afresh about the possibility of a further merge with Black Belt (U.S. region)? This would be much more manageable than trying to merge all three in one step.

I'll leave the articles alone for a while, at least until there seems to be no more discussion, and then I might do the basic merge and set up the redirect etc, but I'll probably have to leave the editing in of the merged text to others.-- Chris Jefferies 08:50, 16 June 2007 (UTC) reply

OK, I've completed the basic merge and set up the redirect. I don't have time right now to edit the new material into the article properly, it's just appended. The merged material included a couple of notices which I've left. It may be OK to remove this once the combined document is completed.-- Chris Jefferies 16:38, 24 June 2007 (UTC) reply

Question on “Counties” section

I’m just wondering who considers Lamar County part of the Black Belt. I don’t see a citation for it. The article concedes that Lamar doesn’t fit geographically. It doesn’t fit demographically, either. It’s “rural,” but so are a lot of places.

No one would call Bibb County part of the Black Belt, even though it’s also rural and borders Black Belt counties. Sartysnopes ( talk) 06:16, 9 April 2023 (UTC) reply
