Not clear whether Baylander was an official USN name. It makes sense but is not mentioned by IVR or NavSource, indeed IVR has "NO NAME (IX 514)" Could it be just a post-USN name? I think that this would affect the correct name for the article. Davidships ( talk) 01:56, 22 November 2016 (UTC) reply

Thanks for creating this page, I am Port Captain on Baylander. I have some edits but am not fluent with Wiki. Baylander is a Skilak class lighter, of which the US Navy purchased 16 of these. It was based on a existing design that was used to make the Alaskan Pipeline. Skilak is a lake in Alaska /info/en/?search=Skilak_Lake. It was never named Skilak. I think the Navy used the name Baylander because it was in Pensacola Bay and it was easyier to say on the radio as a "call sign", but I am not positive. In Vietnam war many ATC(H) were used as river based heli carriers. The pic is just an example. So the statement about Baylander being this should be discussed. JuergenKlueser ( talk) 19:36, 5 June 2018 (UTC) reply
