Davis Street School

I had a relative that taught at the Davis Street School in Atlanta in the 1920's. I believe it was a primary school. Does anyone have any information on this extinct school?

Mass-redirect of elementary and middle school articles

I went through the elementary and middle schools and redirected anything here that didn't have some indication of notability beyond being a school.

I also moved/renamed a couple of the redirects because the names were too generic, confusing people following links from like-named schools in other cities.

Feel free to restore any of the articles I turned into redirects. However, if you do, I would ask that you beef up the article so it's abundantly clear why this particular school stands out from other schools. Two common reasons are the school is nationally recognized or the building is nationally historic. Less common reasons are that the school or site was related to something else famous or infamous. However, be careful, things that are widely known for only one event are not always considered "notable" in Wikipedia. Reasons that commonly don't make the grade include famous alumni, unless there are a disproportionate number of them; being picked to participate in some program that is not so elite that being picked is an indication of notability; academic and sports performance of students, unless it is on a national level and consistent over time; etc. davidwr/( talk)/( contribs)/( e-mail) 02:16, 20 October 2009 (UTC) reply

Test Cheating Scandal

I'm just wondering what the thoughts are on including information on the standardized test cheating scandal currently (July 2011) going on in the APS. It has been reported that it is "the most wide-ranging investigation into test-cheating in a public school district ever conducted in United States history" according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It should be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.98.218.69 ( talk) 21:09, 9 July 2011 (UTC) reply

Yes, but it will be a big addition that might require its on article.-- Pawyilee ( talk) 03:59, 12 July 2011 (UTC) reply

I definitely expected to see at least a blurb with a link to a page about the scandal itself when I visited the page -- 130.207.218.196 ( talk) 16:55, 13 July 2011 (UTC) reply

Burying the cheating scandal

Looks like somebody moved the History section all the way to the bottom of the article, past the huge list of schools that few are likely to scroll past. I'm suspicious that the intent was to bury the unflattering APS scandal at the very bottom of the article. Does anyone object to me moving the History section to the top of the article, the more traditional spot? MaxVeers ( talk) 23:41, 3 January 2013 (UTC) reply

List of former schools

Trying to find more information on some of the former schools in the system, but unfortunately the list provided in the article lacks citations. Anyone have a source for where this information came from? JJonahJackalope ( talk) 17:05, 13 March 2020 (UTC) reply

@ JJonahJackalope: one can look up copies of the Atlanta Journal Constitution and, via Newspapers.com (which is available in the Wikipedia Library), one can see if one can find relevant sources to add. Be sure to make clippings of the articles so the articles (and only the ones you use, not necessarily the whole page!) are publicly visible. WhisperToMe ( talk) 02:03, 13 November 2023 (UTC) reply
Thanks! I had no idea Newspapers.com was available via the Wikipedia Library, but I'll definitely keep that in mind when doing future projects! JJonahJackalope ( talk) 03:58, 13 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Clarification about Census Zoning map

The 2020 US Census school district map makes it seem like a small triangle of Atlanta in DeKalb County (the one around Terry Mill Road SE]) is zoned to DeKalb schools. However the APS school locator returns APS schools when I search a relevant address. The map of Burgess-Peterson ES (which feeds to Martin Luther King MS and Maynard Jackson HS) shows that those DeKalb slivers are in APS.

The Emory/CDC part of Atlanta will go to APS in 2024. WhisperToMe ( talk) 02:06, 13 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Looks like APS is already listing the Emory/CDC part of Atlanta in its 2023 map https://www.atlantapublicschools.us/cms/lib/GA01000924/Centricity/Domain/108/aps_locations23_24_letter.pdf , zoned to Springdale Park ES, Howard MS, and Midtown HS WhisperToMe ( talk) 02:23, 13 November 2023 (UTC) reply
