Mister Rogers Golf Mate

According to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjD3LtozAQk it appears that Arnold was a golfing buddies growing up with Fred Rodgers another famous resident Latrobe. Shall this be noted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tazzaler ( talkcontribs) 01:22, 20 July 2010 (UTC) reply

The sentence relating to Fred Rogers in the Early Life section is out of place - as it stands it is a non sequitur, Also, it is not sourced. I DO agree it is an interesting tidbit and should be included, even extended to mention the 'golfing buddies' angle. Jeromeg52 ( talk) 17:34, 18 March 2015 (UTC)JeromeG52 reply

Born in suburb

This was discussed before (with MDTeacher), Latrobe is a suburb of Pittsburgh. But an Anonymous user (without any justification) keeps deleting sourced cited data.

Placed Latrobe http://www.census.gov/population/www/documentation/twps0027/twps0027, http://ftp2.census.gov/geo/maps/urbanarea/uaoutline/UA2000/ua69697/ua69697_00.pdf&pli=1, Semantics are justification for deletion? It was my humble opinion that semantics at most were justification for editing or discussion not deletion.

From the experts in the field: http://www.census.gov/population/www/documentation/twps0027/twps0027.html#cities and the map concurs: http://ftp2.census.gov/geo/maps/urbanarea/uaoutline/UA2000/ua69697/ua69697_00.pdf&pli=1 and independent analysis (if you have a healthy mistrust of the government): http://www.brookings.edu/es/urban/census/lucy.pdf (under methodology)

I am not aware of Latrobe being a neighborhood of Pittsburgh, thus it cannot be a "central city". I share your strong sense of identity I am a Hempfield High School graduate, however growing up within walking distance of Latrobe I never tuned into Latrobe TV nor radio, used the Latrobe offices of federal or state (or even county) agencies, and Route 30 always seemed to have much heavier traffic west in the AM and east in the PM. Since the chief metric for the Census determination is amount of commuters that traffic flow and Latrobe's suburban status would be an accurate determination. I too hope someday to root for the Latrobe Lakers of the NBA (or even watch Channel 3 Latrobe) but most everybody in Latrobe roots for some team in Pittsburgh, attends concerts there, receives major surgery there, since 1992 most get their newspapers with an address there. Just like Henderson, Nevada, Uniondale, New York, Pontiac, Michigan, Falls Church, Virginia and Sandy Springs, Georgia rely on some other place to define themselves. We can call Latrobe many exotic things "Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area borough" etc. but that should not be the precedent for an encyclopedia especially since experts given to elaborate nomenclature call it simply a "suburb". It is my sincere hope that knowledge is not deleted and if contemplated a discussion would ensue first. Thank you. Hholt01 (talk) 08:17, 31 October 2010 (UTC) Left on MD Teachers Talk page.

http://www.census.gov/population/www/metroareas/lists/historical/50mfips.txt, the census only goes back to January 1, 1950 for metro area definitions, and yes Latrobe was a suburb even then based on 1940's demographic trends. This is not some recent change that is irrelevant to AP. Palmer spent his formative years in a "suburb" according to the apples to apples comparisons that the U.S. Census provides. If Pittsburgh had Jacksonville's or Indianapolis' boundaries Latrobe could very well be a neighborhood inside the city, or if it was the state of Nevada or California Latrobe could be in Allegheny County. Local politicians drawing lines is a poor way to define a location in the context of explaining origin thus it's important to follow census definitions since they are universally applied apples to apples. Personal life

I've noticed that there is no section relating to Arnold Palmer's personal and family life? No reference to his wife Winnie, their children or his life growing up in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Anyone know whats going on? I mean I can contribute info but I want to make sure that I don't cross the line in regards to Mr. Palmer's privacy. Arnold Palmer line at Sears

I don't see any mention of the fact that the Arnold Palmer line of men's wear and accessories has been a prominent feature at the Sears department store chain for many years. Surely there should be a mention of that. At least, the Arnold Palmer line is still a feature at Sears Canada, although I am not certain it is still carried in the U.S. From what I see online, some Arnold Palmer-branded products continue to be carried at Sears U.S., but not so much in the men's wear line. FAA Medical

It is likely that he would have required a First Class Medical by his insurance company to fly the Citation X. A First Class medical certification needs to be renewed every 6 months. A first class medical automatically converts to a third class medical when it expires. At his age, a third class medical is valid for two years after the issuance date. It is likely that the third class medical was automatically generated in the system. 66.229.51.145 ( talk) 21:25, 10 May 2015 (UTC) reply

That's what it has been nominated for. But articles have to be up to scratch with no major issues before they can be linked on the main page. Unfortunately the referencing here is really poor. There are major gaps that need to be filled before this could be posted. - Ad Orientem ( talk) 18:32, 27 September 2016 (UTC) reply

It might be nice to mention that Mr. Rogers took golf lessons from Arnie's father.

Just saying. I'm glad you mentioned Mr. Rogers in any case. Mr. Palmer's memory is one of class. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.193.179.244 ( talk) 07:54, 26 September 2016 (UTC) reply

Arnie's Army

"Arnie's Army" barely gets a mention in this article. There should be at least a paragraph on the subject, especially since the Obama quote mentions it. The story of Arnie's Army in Palmer's own words can be seen here:

  • "The Arnie's Army Story | Arnold Palmer". www.arnoldpalmer.com.

Also, the ' Arnie's Army Charitable Foundation' should be mentioned (if not having its own article). See:

Real cause of death

Palmer's cause of death was reported to have been "heart failure", but may, in fact, have been iatrogenic. He was taking Rivaroxaban, a prescribed drug marketed under the trade name Xarelto, that had caused internal bleeding and resulted in hospitalization in August 2016. Palmer was a spokesman for the product. [death 1] [death 2]  —  Quicksilver (Hydrargyrum) T @ 19:22, 21 April 2017 (UTC) reply

Infobox could use a better photograph of Arnold Palmer

The photograph of Arnold Palmer in the Infobox is not very flattering. The picture is out-of-focus and the man is eighty years old. A well-focused picture of Arnold Palmer in his prime would be much more appealing to readers. Anthony22 ( talk) 17:10, 13 March 2018 (UTC) reply

Rangers fan

This is a misinterpretation - see the linked article. Palmer was a boyhood hero to the Rangers owner rather than a boyhood fan of Rangers. 93.107.238.137 ( talk) 23:22, 26 June 2022 (UTC) reply

Brand ambassador

Hi all, been trying to add info on Palmer's work as a brand ambassador for Lincoln/Mercury. Automotive historian Alden Jewell has authorized the release of his digitized copy of Palmer's promotional photo so that has been added. In 1970, Palmer was an ambassador for the Continental Mark III, and in 1971, he was ambassador for the Continental. This is supported by original ford promotional material, but I am unable to find citation info for these original pieces, and am only able to locate them on blogs and auction websites. Does anyone have any info on how to go about getting this added? GeorgeRoush5 ( talk) 13:43, 23 August 2022 (UTC) reply
