"In doing so, he became the fourth vice president or former vice president to run for that post WITH two presidential candidates [...]" What does "with" mean in this sentence / what is the overall meaning of this sentence? This sentence is unclear to me. Perhaps it should instead read: "In doing so, he became the fourth vice president or former vice president to run for that post with two DIFFERENT presidential candidates [...]"

Death

Only that Adlai E. Stevenson II died in London, so the confusion between the two of them is not involved.

Hi, I intended to translate this biography into french but I noticed a whole chapter disapeared. The section Adlai E. Stevenson I#Election of Grover Cleveland in 1884 and the U.S. Post Office had been reduced to its heading and an ungrammatical part of its first sentence; i have not examined the intervening changes, but the section now has three sentences.

Sorry--not sure how to create a new topic here. But I am puzzled by the claim that Stevenson was one of two former VPs to be nominated for the presidency. Have I misunderstood the claim? Don't think he was; it might say, badly, that he was nominated twice for VP (i.e., renominated once for VP), as running mate to two different Pres candidates. (Haven't checked article yet, just cleaning up on this talk page for now.)

This wording is currently part of the article:

However it should be noted that Stevenson was the first of two former Vice Presidents to be nominated by his party for his former office. (The other being Republican Charles Warren Fairbanks in 1916) .

I don't much like the wording, and i'm going to at least get rid of the sent frag, but the facts are accurate in AES I's case, and it is reasonable to suppose there's only one other case.

The sentence is still unclear and misleading. It would be much simpler if it read: Stevenson is one of only two persons to have been nominated for Vice-President of the US with a different running mate after having finished a full term as Vice-President. Adlai was married to Letitia Green on December 20th, 1866; in the home of Letitia's sister Julia Green Scott; now referred to as the Matthew T. Scott House which is listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. ^[1]

Adlai co-founded the McClean County Coal Company in 1867 with his brother-in-law Matthew T. Scott ^[2]
