Claimed Reactivation in 2016

Currently (3-22-2016), the article claims without citation that the French Army will reactivate its First Armored Division "in 2016". I can't find any sources for this claim. Should it be deleted? 73.13.123.157 ( talk) 15:29, 22 March 2016 (UTC) reply

Translation

There is a lot of material here that seems to be written by non-English speakers, or translated from the French article https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/1re_division_blind%C3%A9e_(France) so it needs a clean up. Stevebritgimp ( talk) 22:02, 8 August 2021 (UTC) reply

@ Stevebritgimp: indeed. It is a bad translation of about 90% of the French article. I have done a first pass, which should help, and am committing to doing another as it seems to actually be quite an important topic. Any help from sources appreciated; the French itself is a bit stilted as well. Elinruby ( talk) 07:22, 22 January 2022 (UTC) reply

Dollar

I am not finding any mention of such a town south of Colmar in any of the supporting articles and suspect this is a typo or auto-complete error. Noting here as I want to stay focused on the translation problems for now, but I or someone else should research this and either validate, correct or remove it. The name of another town just before this is unwikilinked because the name exists as an upper and a lower on the en wikipedia. These issues can probably be resolved with either sources or fr Wikipedia Elinruby ( talk) 06:32, 22 January 2022 (UTC) reply

Found on fr.wikipedia; it’s the Doller River not a town named Dollar. The upper/lower thing is just going to have to stand, as the town is discussed as a landmark for a region not a specific jurisdiction that was conquered. Article still needs a side by side comparison of the English and the French, as I found several other typos in the English. But for now I have identified and wikilinked all the generals, military units and towns that can be wikilinked. Will do another pass at a later time to help smooth the narrative in English, which is garbled in places. Any help from sources appreciated. There is a lovely anecdote in the French article about that chapel that should be included Elinruby ( talk) 07:17, 22 January 2022 (UTC) reply

Chevestraye [ fr (draft translation for reference, suggested detail)

(Important or large) fighting of the battle of the Vosges involving tanks and artillery took place in the battle for Chevestraye at the end of September and beginning of October 1944.
On October 2nd two battalions of the Foreign Legion relieved the 1st Armoured Division in the Fresse-Chevestraye sector with the mission of conducting a diversionary action at the col (tor?) in support of an attack on Ronchamp. After gains and losses in the fighting, the heights were finally taken by a Ukrainian battalion come to reinforce the Legion. This battalion, from the 1st artillery regiment of the 30th division of the Waffen-SS, under-equipped and without means, had killed its German officers and joined a marquis in the Haut-Saône on August 27.
A column was erected at the top of the hill to honor five soldiers of the 2nd regiment of African chasseurs who were killed in the fighting.
I will bring over the references when I come back to this, but I have had enough of this for now. But I think this is an interesting story, well suited to breaking up that clump of wikilinks in the list of battles in that section Elinruby ( talk) 08:25, 22 January 2022 (UTC) reply
