Since the land is owned by the University, the Center is often criticized for failing to appeal to students. The management of the Center does not deny the mall's elitist focus with its predominantly upscale retail offering.
The "often criticized" aspect appears to be unsubstantiated. If there are no objections, I'll remove it.

Distance
The distances from San Francisco and San Jose are given as:
The Center is approximately 45 minutes from San Francisco and 30 minutes from San Jose.
I suggest replacing this with distance in miles, as distance expressed in terms of drive times are ambiguous, and are not deterministic. --

I concur. The shopping center can be as long as 1 hour from San Francisco and 45 minutes from San Jose depending upon the traffic and where exactly one's trip originates in those cities. --
