In 2002, Fox's television show American Idol signed Coca Cola as its initial sponsor for $10 million after Pepsi had passed on the opportunity. [1] That first season, American Idol far exceeded expectations as the show averaged 12.7 million viewers each episode with the large, red Coca Cola cups placed in front of every judge as they listened to performers. [2]
