Not all of the
Game & Watch games are black and white, but the monochromatic aspect of Mr. Game & Watch (except when he uses the Metal Cap) is indeed an allusion to the earliest
Game & Watch games.

Oh jiz.
This article needs to be cleaned up. Thus, a cleanup tag is in order. Come on, the damned thing is half SSBM, half cartoon and nadda for the games he first appeared in! --
A Link to the Past 10:34, July 31, 2005 (UTC)
The way I see it, Mr. Game & Watch should just be reffered to the character in SSBM, not anything else. This article should probably be about the SSBM character, and G&W games should go in the
Game & Watch article. And the cartoons... uh, I had no idea Mr.Game & Watch ever appeared in a cartoon, plus I'll bet he wasn't even reffered to as Mr. Game & Watch back then. The name of this cartoon isn't even given, and those credits seem to hog a lot of the article. --
gakon5 22:05, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
Same here about him being created in SSBM. He made later appearances in
Game & Watch Gallery 4 and cameos in games like
WarioWare: Twisted! And the Game & Watch series is not a series of games. It's more of a generation of games, like NES games or SNES games. He's an amalgamation of Game & Watch characters that looked alike (Ball protagonist, Parachute protagonist) and others that didn't (Greenhouse protagonist, Flagman protagonist).
Nidorino 07:23, 25 September 2006 (UTC)reply
I've tried to tidy things up a bit, but as for the cartoon, the name of the creator in a google search returns this page and no else. After wiki'ing the voice actors, I came across
Peter Cullen, who apparently did voice acting in something called "Saturday Supercade," which featured other Nintendo characters, perhaps this cartoon was part of that?
Mallocks 19:02, 11 August 2005 (UTC)reply
Possibly, although G&W sort of went through a "rise and fall" sort of thing; like he pretty much disappeared in the gaming world after other consoles came out, and then he reappeared in SSBM. I don't think I ever reffered to the G&W guys as Nintendo characters, although they pretty much are.
Here's what we should do, maybe: start off with some stuff about the old G&W games, then a section on SSBM, and then a small section on the cartoon; un-tag the article and un-stub it.. and life is good. --
gakon5(talk)
Could we possibly, please, add in a slight note in the SSBM section on how the heck you play this guy? Not a strategy guide or anything, just a couple lines on his strengths and weaknesses like was done with the
Link article. I'd do it, but the only thing I've been able to figure out is to do his trampoline bounce over and over again while drunkenly yelling "BOING" and laughing like a manic. --Myrkabah

DarkHero 23:51, 29 June 2006 (UTC)reply
Not a credit card - it's a box from the Mario Bros. G&W game (
Fryguy64 12:23, 20 June 2007 (UTC))reply
Actually It's a cement block, from Cement Factory. That ladder game.
Fourange 23:47, 17 August 2007 (UTC)reply
Woah... nevermind that. I found out it IS indeed a package from the Mario Bros. Game. I thought Fryguy meant, like.. a block. Sorry 'bout that.

To Do List
Here's what I think the article's layout should look like:
For the beginning, a part about G&W and the G&W character, and how he was given that name,
then a section on his character in SSBM, as well as his B button moves possibly,
then a small section on the cartoon he was in, minus the episode listing and credits. Tho we need a little more intel on this subject possibly.
Just my thoughts on how we might go about cleaning up this article. BTW I'ma remove that list of credits, and maybe the episode listing, as it just seems out of place. --

Spoiler Warning
Is how to unlock Mr. G+W considered a spoiler? --
gakon5(talk)
That was only a rumor
It has not been officially confirmed that G&W will not be in SSBB. It is likely that rumor was false. Please do not put up any speculation like that in the future.
Thanks for saying that. I was just about to put something in the discussion about MG&W's removal.

SSBM moveset
We really don't need that. Wikipedia isn't a player's guide, and a list of button combos for a video game isn't encyclopedic. I didn't completely delete that section, but I hid it in comment tags...

Sausage or Bacon?
What does he throw when he performs Chef? Is it sausage, or bacon? I'm just wondering because someone recently changed the article to say bacon instead of sausages. --LuigiManiac 13:01, 5 June 2007 (UTC)reply
Well because as an encyclopedia as much as possible we try to present facts and this is one of the easy ones, it should be absolutely verifiable one way or the other.
Mallocks 21:46, 14 July 2007 (UTC)reply
It's Sausage. It says so on his trophy in Melee. Plus, you can see where they connect if you pause in-game.
Fourange 23:50, 17 August 2007 (UTC)reply
Age?
I think Mr. Game & Watch is a year older than Mario (though Mario's age is pretty much unkown), since "Jumpman" was created a year after Mr. Game & Watch. In the actual article, would it be cool to say that he's around Mario's age for this reason?
Fourange 18:18, 23 August 2007 (UTC)reply
I found out that Mr. Game & Watch is 27.
Fourange 18:18, 18 September 2007 (UTC)reply
The character's age is pretty impossible to determine since we really don't know anything about him. Also, how did you "find out" that his age is 27?
Jeff Silvers 16:56, 28 September 2007 (UTC)reply
The games his moves were based off of?
Could we put that in the article? I happen to have a list...
Fourange 17:36, 24 August 2007 (UTC)reply
See
SSBM moveset here in the talk page. It isn't really encyclopedic to list every single one of his moves, even if they do derive from Game & Watch games.
Disaster Kirby<fontcolor="Purple">Talk 17:43, 24 August 2007 (UTC)reply
I'm not talking about listing his moves. I know this isn't a guide. I'm talking about listing the GAMES his moves were BASED off of.
Fourange 18:17, 18 September 2007 (UTC)reply
What's the point of doing that? There's already a
List of Game & Watch games on Wikipedia, so relisting the games that his moves are based off of would seem like trivial cruft, in my opinion.

Brawl status
Check out those little icons on the Brawl website for each update. Each corresponds to the icons in the game. Melee had 14 franchise icons, Ice Climbers are icon 14, Animal Crossing is 15, and there's one last icon spot open before 14, it being 13. This suggests to me that Game and Watch is returning, his being the last Melee franchise to need to return; however, it is obviously not solid enough for Wikipedia to go about saying "MR. GAME AND WATCH IS CONFIRMED GUYS". However, would this be notable enough to mention on the article, while still making it clear that this is not 100% confirmation?
Evan1109 19:22, 14 September 2007 (UTC)reply
Not really, since it is speculation. It's highly probable that it is true, but it's still speculation.
Disaster KirbyTalk 19:33, 14 September 2007 (UTC)reply
King K. Rool has a bit about this (last time I checked, anyway.) Why shouldn't Mr. Game & Watch?
Fourange 18:20, 18 September 2007 (UTC)reply
Z-Shielding fully covers him. Plus, as long as that competitive sidenote thing is there, that citation tag won't leave.
Fourange 18:30, 18 September 2007 (UTC)reply
Ah, but don't you
see, it doesn't need a citation "since effective use of him against a skilled opponent often requires complex mind games." Sometimes I really wonder just who is editing this thing ... Anyway I think if it remains without citation for much longer I'll just remove it as it appears to be a magnet for additional unverifiable opinions.
Mallocks 22:15, 4 October 2007 (UTC)reply
I believe that this article needs to be merged with the
Game & Watch article. There is already a section about the character on this page, but it should be expanded using some more information from this article, as well as other information that anyone else might know of. The
SSB data is not appropriate other than the mention that the character is part of the game and that he was first seen in that game (
if that is indeed the case).
I believe that once these edits are complete, the page should be converted to a redirect, not deleted, so that others may more easily find this information. —

Yes, I agree with the plan. Oh, and thanks for adding the merge thing for me. These darn PRODS don't work out much at all, do they? :P
ZeroGiga (

I just prefer not to involve the administrators that usually handle PRODs, because they tend not to do anything but delete the article. This way, if more people are involved in getting the good information into the correct article, it isn't lost forever! —
OranL (

Done. Please head over to the Game & Watch article to find the
Mr. Game & Watch section. Feel more than free to edit this section, as I am not very knowledgeable on this subject. I have left many
cite tags to let people know that most of this information is not referenced and needs someone who knows more about this subject. —
