Suggestions welcome

After creating the page I added a few additional references, citations, and external links to support the information. There are several items to show Matthew Kelly's credentials as an international speaker and best selling author.

  • Appreciating the progress that has been made, the two angles of concern are:
  • Textual: still an overuse of terms like "message of hope and inspiration"; I appreciate that such is the raison d'etre of a motivational speaker, but for an encyclopaedia it is better to stick close with just the facts;
  • References: Most are too close to the author - his own site, publisher, booking agency (the last of which really doesn't belong here); the National Catholic Register one is best as a reliable source- more such would help.

And watch the similarity of the text to other copyrighted websites. Whole sentences seem to have been cut and pasted from sites such as http://www.matthewkelly.org/about or http://www.matthewkelly.com/ The-Pope ( talk) 09:11, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

My contributions to Wikipdeia are limited, so I'm not clear on the protocol for removing the notices applied at the beginning of the article (multiple issues, neutrality concerns, etc.). Does an admin remove these notices after a later review - or is it my call to remove them once I feel these issues have been resolved? Thanks. Yobbo14 ( talk) 15:36, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Any editor can remove the tags. For an article that you created, or substantially contributed to, you should try hard to be objective about the article and the tags, but you're still allowed to remove them if you think the issues have been addressed. For any editor putting tags on articles, taking them off, or even putting back tags that were removed, I would encourage discussion on the article's talk page, it helps everyone involved to improve the article, and of course we've had some of that in this case. — Mudwater ( Talk) 16:45, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I went ahead and removed the tag indicating an issue with notability. Google his name (as lecturer) and plenty comes up to suggest he's a fairly well-known speaker, and not limited to a specific group. I suppose there are a few more references I can locate and include - and perhaps some tweaks to the text. But I think the adjustments I've made so far have helped. The article is now worded in a more neutral and less promotional way than it was before. So, I'm going to remove the POV tag ("The neutrality of this article is disputed"). — Mudwater ( Talk) 13:38, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

It seems that most of the issues have been addressed (citations for verification and self-published sources) to warrant removing some of the tags. This is Jenna from Dynamic Catholic - at Matthew Kelly's office. This page needs some updates. Matthew has changed his focus - most noticeably, the audiences he speaks to quite a bit in the last couple years. I understand that as a close source to Matthew, it might be best for me to start out by making suggestions on this talk page rather than make the changes myself.

First paragraph Notes: 1) As noted above, Matthew is not a motivational speaker 2) Nearly 90% of of Matthew's work is housed under either 1) The Dynamic Catholic Institute or 2) Floyd Consulting. We do not do much with The Matthew Kelly Foundation anymore.

Good morning. It has been a couple weeks since I posted the requested edits above and I have not heard anything back from the original creators of the page. After doing some research on Wikipedia guidelines, I learned that it is best for those with a possible conflict of interest to make edit requests on the talk page rather than directly making the edits. However, if I do not hear anything by Monday morning (9:00 EST) I plan to make the proposed changes as listed above. I believe the edits I propose above contain neutral language and comply with Wikipedia's neutrality guidelines. I do hope to hear from someone soon.

Ok - no problem - I can see that now that I take a second look. I just went back through my above edits and deleted Peacock terms. Is this suitable? Hello, my name is Jenna and I work with Matthew Kelly at Dynamic Catholic.

In an effort to improve our brand and provide the most accurate information available, Matthew has requested that I make significant edits to this page and I would like to notify the users involved before doing this. I certainly do appreciate your good efforts to promote Matthew Kelly, but at this point, Matthew Kelly would like to take over his Wikipedia page.

I have prepared the text that Matthew has asked me to use, and would like to make these changes as soon as possible. This would mean pasting over the information currently on the page.

  • That is not proper behaviour here: the subject does not own the page for him to "take over". Concepts of "improve our brand" and "promote" are utterly foreign to Wikipedia. Please read WP:COI. AllyD ( talk) 18:50, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
