Why have a list of topics when we already have a notion of a category?
Asteron 15:10, 6 September 2006 (UTC)reply
Because categories are vastly inferior to topics lists.
Michael Hardy 19:51, 6 September 2006 (UTC)reply
Um...... to be a little bit more specific: please look at
list of mathematics lists and some of the longer lists to which it links. The
list of mathematics lists is a magnificent thing; you could spend a long time exploring it.
Michael Hardy 19:51, 6 September 2006 (UTC)reply
Organized lists with some information is fine but this article is nothing more than an alphabeticle listing. This could be done with a category and would not require maintanence. Ohh well.
Asteron 19:20, 19 September 2006 (UTC)reply
Even without organization, this enjoys some of the benefits for which lists are so far superior to categories. It doesn't have invisible links to talk pages (yet). So maybe we should work on it. Also, this list is listed in the magnificent
list of mathematics lists, so that alone is a good reason for this list to exist.

Move from "π" to "pi"
On the
Lists of mathematics topics, this was the only one with a non-Latin character in the title. It is unconventional to use a math symbol in a title even when that symbol is universally understood. It's
Three Blind Mice, not "3 Blind Mice", a
Dirac delta function, not a δ function, and so forth. In this case, "pi" is far more common in general usage than is "π".
CNN uses "pi", the
BBC uses "pi", and the
New York Times uses "pi". Math journals can go either way. Check
here and
here for journal articles with "pi" in their titles.

This was a contentious move and it wasn't properly discussed. At
WT:WPM there is a clear consensus against your moves, so I will undo this one. Don't do it again without prior consensus from a formal
WP:RM discussion.
HansAdler 08:11, 1 May 2011 (UTC)reply
Actually no, I couldn't do it because of the stupid title blacklist. I will ask an admin.

Move discussion in progress
There is a move discussion in progress on
Talk:Pi which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —
