Isn't it a bit betetr if we add more infor regarding executees like date and place of execution?
His being executed is not confirmed. --YixilTesiphon
Categories should include:
and so on... R Lee E 23:12, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)

I think that the decision to put Jesus of Nazareth first is biased. If the list is sorted alphabetically, then Jesus shouldn't be placed first. Placing him there is basically a declaration that "Jesus is better than all the other people executed". I didn't want to just change it, though. 18:37, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
Here are my thoughts on the matter: Consider yourself for a moment as someone visiting this page looking for an answer. Likelyhood is you'll know what this person did to get executed, but your just not sure what their name is, or the reverse. It's unlikely you'll know such subtle details as the date or location of their execution. On top of that, as I've gone through categorizing this article, I've never had to stop and say to myself, "Hmm, I'm not sure where this guy this should go." The truth is, everyone so far has fit firmly into one of these four categories. R Lee E 23:01, August 7, 2005 (UTC)
Fair enough. You lead, I'll follow. Edit the article and add an example of your preferred format. I'll help out. R Lee E 02:56, August 8, 2005 (UTC)
Looks great so far! Once I have a bit more time, I'll help out. R Lee E 19:36, August 10, 2005 (UTC)
I have put dates and brief word on reason for execution to most of the people. I removed Jean Moulin as it doesn't sound like he was actually executed and George Kelly is a disambig page but of the Kellys with bios none seem to have been executed.
I put the murders in a group but avoided murderers with more political stances. Possible categories I would suggest are: Assassinion (successful or not), Deposed leaders (and families), Espionage (spys, freedom fighters etc.), Political opponents (a better title may be found), Religion/Heresy and War criminals. I know some may be a bit dubious but so if anyone has any suggestions... I will move most of these is a few days, if nobody complains deeply, and the rest rapists, pacifists, adulteresses and revoultionries can go in other. MeltBanana 20:22, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
Is Leon Trotsky a political opponent (of Stalin) or a Deposed leader? (Both really)
Putting rapists, pacifists, adulteresses and revolutionaries seems like a terrible idea. It would offend many people. To have a revolutionary hero like Hugh Mercer put next to some rapist? That seems wrong.

I know he was a lawyer, but doesn't he fit better with religious figures than with treason? Joan of Arc was never in any formal religious order either as far as I recall. She is in religious figures as a Catholic saint and More I believe was canonized much earlier. Any objection to me moving him? (Note I am well aware he had Protestants killed and could be brutally cruel in his polemics. However Thomas Cranmer supported several executions and also supported Lady Jane Grey's claim to the throne according to BBC. This is arguably more "treasonous", but he's in the religion list)-- T. I have to mention that the offenders who are executed in Singapore and China are not included in the list mentioned here... there are many thousands who were executed there.-- T.prasanth.mathew

The number of capital punishment sentences in texas alone is over a thousand, so what is the criteria for a person to be included in this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.113.211.216 ( talk) 08:11, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Having a wikipedia page? Historical figures (like JFK, Rommel (forced suicide is also murder). A famous person (like Marvin Gaye). Heads of state (like Lincoln, Allende, ...). Infamous people (Lee Harvey Oswald). "Celebrities" (Tupac, Dimebag Darrell)
If you're including assassination attempts... FDR, Reagan, Castro, Lenin, King Leo II of Belgium, ...
