I've added a lead paragraph describing filtering, which I see as critical to any explanation of LES. However, the lead paragraphs are longer than the "Details" paragraphs. The lead should be shortened to give a more succinct and encyclopedic definition of LES, and the details about computational cost and comparisons to RANS and DNS should be moved into a separate section (where it could also be given a more "proper" treatment). --

Done. Added an additional paragraph to the lead describing why LES is used, and removed the existing paragraphs, which gave too many details about the relative costs of RANS, LES, and DNS, as well as the weaknesses of LES. This content will be moved elsewhere. --

The references in this article have been an issue for a while, I'm planning on adding more inline citations and expanding the references used. There are several very nice books on LES that should at the very least be listed as "External References". --

Modeling the Subgrid-Scale Stress Tensor - needs to be significantly expanded, as this is the "meat and potatoes" of LES research. Some common SGS models should be mentioned, if not defined. Sagaut (2006) contains a thorough listing of all SGS models, although it is a bit too thorough and not all of the models mentioned in Sagaut should be included on this page. The section should discuss both spatial and spectral models. Also, some mention of subgrid scalar modeling is needed. --

Derivation - I don't see how this section contributes to an understanding of what LES is. Plus, it's not even for a general case - it's for a special case of Cartesian coordinates, incompressible flow, filters that commute with derivatives, homogeneous isotropic filter, etc etc. This derivation of the filtering operation applied to a PDE is best left to a reference. --

Fourier (wave-number) space - there is no mention of the (very important) concept of Fourier space and how it is utilized in LES (e.g. what the filter operation looks like in Fourier space). I believe this would contribute significantly to the article, and would allow for a nice discussion of the turbulent kinetic energy spectra and what the different filtering operations do to the KE spectra. --
