This article states that McConnell served aboard the USS Saratoga (CV-60) during WWII. The Saratoga with the designation CV-60 didn't enter service till 1956. The keel wasn't even laid down till 1952. He presumably served aboard the USS Saratoga (CV-3) which did serve in WWII, so I am ammending the article to reflect this.
