The following discussion is an archived discussion of a
requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a
move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Move to
Jatra (theatre). There's clear consensus for a move, and this title is the most concise and least problematic of the suggestions.

The disambiguation page
Jatra lists many other street entertainment forms. Will the suffix "folk-theatre" really disambiguate it? §§

Two are plain texts (in a disambig page), another is a film. Do we really need that dabpage? --

Sorry! What i meant was that all these forms of Jatra, Bengali, Nepali, Marathi and Telugu (whether red-linked or whatever) deal with similar kind of entity, that is folk-theatre, street plays, carnival and such with no clear definition. The current article "Jatra (Bengal)" deals with what happens in the actual jatra of Bengal. But changing it to "folk-theatre" (hyphenated or en dashed or whatever) gives possibility of writing about other jatras also in here. I don't know about the Nepali and Telugu jatra. But a Maharashtrian jatra is like a mela, not the Hindu mela that our article "
Mela" deals with (and wrongly represents) but more of the sort that the films
Mela (2000 film),
Mela (1971 film) and
Mela (1948 film) showed; like a carnival. It has food stalls and giant wheels and open theatre film shows and some sports and etc. But its mainly notable for the performances of
Tamasha, a folk dance form. And thats where the conflict with the term "folk-theatre" would come. §§

Thanks for explaining. No, Bengali Jatra is not like that. It is just theatre, but in rural areas or dance programs. But, I am not asking to move that Jatra (Marathi). I am asking to move this
Jatra (Bengal). And another note, do we really need that
Jatra page, there are only two articles, and Jatra (film) is different. --

The Maharashtrian jatra is also folk-theater-ish thing as it mainly is notable for Tamasha. The Bengali one might be more notable than other forms. I won't object on that. But if the article's title is folk-theatre, inclusion of only Bengali form would be wrong. And we definitely need that disambiguation page. These pages can have red-links. §§

Please, a hyphen, not an en dash: (folk-theatre).
Tony(talk) 07:45, 3 January 2013 (UTC)reply
Oppose. Both
Jatra (Nepal) and
Jatra (Bengal) need work and until that is done (and probably even then) this proposed move seems both unnecessary and even counterproductive. The current title is a good title for a good topic. The proposed title is possibly neither.

Support a move from the current title per nom (the current title does not disambiguate it from the film) and because the current title is inaccurate according to the article (this theatre is popular in several states outside of Bengal). However, a better target is Jatra (theatre) per
WP:PRECISION. If others insist on "folk theatre", at least drop the hyphen which should be used for adjectives but not nouns (per
WP:HYPHEN). —

Support, Jatra in Bengal has a different meaning from its usages in other places. So, disambiguation page
Jatra should list "Jatra (folk-theatre) folk-theatre of Bengal" for this article, which should move to
Jatra (folk-theatre). Good catch in nom.--
