The article's title is "Great Mosque of Samarra", but the text is about the city itself. The mosque is hardly mentioned. either the article needs to be merged with the article on Samarra, or someone needs to put something about the mosque! Grutness... wha? 12:52, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Twice, users have added comments about this mosque being bombed. The Great Mosque of Samarra was not bombed. See Al_Askari_Mosque for the mosque that was actually bombed. Garrettcobb 21:50, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Are you sure the minaret pictured is the famous spiral minaret in Samarra?? It looks too small, out of scale. Compare with other pictures. It rather looks like Abu Dulaf mosque ( http://www.dur.ac.uk/derek.kennet/abudulaf.htm) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.19.70.178 ( talk) 11:04, 23 January 2007 (UTC).
Yes the picture is incorrect it is the Abu Dulaf Mosque, It needs correcting, this is the Great Mosque of Samarra http://www.theamblerfamily.com/Spiral%20Minaret%20Samara%201974.jpg
There is an appropriate photo readily available in the Wikipedia Commons that should be substituted/referenced. I'd do it myself, but have little exposure to Wikipedia editing. Perhaps a more experienced editor will consider making the change. See: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:The_spiral_minaret_in_Samarra.jpg -- Apddraig ( talk) 04:27, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
As per this discussion, I've switch the old image ( Image:Samarraminaret.JPG, added in June 2007) with the other image ( Image:The spiral minaret in Samarra.jpg). - kotra ( talk) 21:35, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Is it possible to transfer the photo of the minaret into international Wikipedia Commons? -- Ulamm 19:21, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I hoped to learn from this article whether the Great Mosque of Samarra was still in use, and if not, when it had gone out of use. The article lacks historical information. Does someone have access to sources other than online news? What happened between 851, when the mosque was completed, and 2005, when someone blew some bricks off the minaret? — ℜob C. alias ÀLAROB 01:22, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps these pages should be combined. I can't think of any other mosque that has a separate page for the minaret. -- Sorchah ( talk) 00:00, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

The reference mentions nothing about Tony Blair. Needs a reference to whatever testimony that it's talking about. Wgfcrafty ( talk) 07:07, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
Looks like there is vandalism with the reference to Tony Blair being a "known liar". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.223.118.237 ( talk) 20:09, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
It seems fairly obvious that this minaret is a major inspiration for later depictions of the Tower of Babel. Can this be mentioned or is pointing out the obvious "original research"? http://www.devimension.com/dvp_doc_database/doc_img_db/devi_druaartc/tower2.gif Trilobright ( talk) 12:15, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

IS THE GREAT MOSQUE OF SAMARRA SHIA? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.16.115.137 ( talk) 18:21, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi all, it looks as though the final paragraph under the minaret subheading is a bit under sourced and poorly written. "Many different stories and theories exist as why to the minaret was bombed. Some people state that it was to directly attack the United States forces while others say that it was to cause internal chaos within the country. " <- unsubstantiated by the BBC link provided.-- Jaypee42 ( talk) 20:19, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
