Blog (unreliable) sources suggest that the fort was first built as a fortified Portuguese manor house around 1550. It must have been a fort by 1672 when it was besieged by Shivaji Maharaj, who failed to take it. -- Bejnar ( talk) 17:35, 22 March 2014 (UTC) reply
