Reception section bias
The "Reception" section is heavily biased, and should be edited to include more negative reception for balance. Ideally, positive reception should not include biased sources.
In fact, there's a number of controversies regarding Drag Queen Story Hour which are conspicuously missing as there is no "Controversies" section at all, but that's a different subject.
Is this page a fluff piece? I'm surprised it's not locked yet to protect from any fair edits and additions, but I suspect it may be after I raise these concerns... — Preceding

I completely agree. There appears to be a large amount of selection bias. Drag Queen Story hour is almost a conservative meme at this point. There is a ton of negative reception.
I don't think its possible to rationally conclude that the reception section was written in a good faith attempt at giving an unbiased reflection. It seems like someone is trying to push their own political narative.

I agree, the section consisted entirely of praising drag queens and the story hours, with no criticisms. I've tried to balance things out by adding some criticisms, from the linked articles, but I think there are still serious problems — the overall balance is still extremely promotional, and the inclusion of bits about disinformation and white nationalists seems a bit dogwhistle-y to me, like it's implying that all detractors of the story hours are dishonest grifters or white nationalists. I don't necessarily want to remove anything, though, because they're all valid perspectives; I think it's mostly a balance issue and we need to add more of the other side. -

Effect of Tennessee's new drag-show restrictions
Two anonymous users (
first,
second) believe that a recent PBS article[1] shows that Drag Queen Story Hour is illegal in Tennessee. Although the article quotes an advocacy group's spokesman's saying: "Rather than focus on actual policy issues facing Tennesseans, politicians would rather spend their time and effort misconstruing age-appropriate performances at a library to pass as many anti-LGBTQ+ bills as they can," the article never says that drag shows, in libraries or elsewhere, are banned; rather, it says that drag performances which are "'harmful to minors'" are banned on "public property or anywhere minors might be present." That's not the same thing. Even if the proposed inference were a reasonable reading of the article (or the statute), it would run afoul of the
no-original-research policy, as the conclusion is not "directly support[ed]" by the citation. Accordingly, I propose that we not mention Tennessee's new law.
Another reason some may favor exercising particular caution here is that it appears from other materials that the proponents of this legislation would have liked to outlaw drag entirely. If the public is falsely persuaded that that is what they've done, they will have achieved in practice what they never could have done officially. Rebbing 22:43, 18 March 2023 (UTC)reply
I would disagree with your interpretation of the article. Although you obviously don't agree that drag performances are harmful to minors. The way the article is written, the presumed intent of the law, and the example given where the drag show was banned from a public park certainly would cause a reasonable person to conclude that the law considers drag inherently harmful to minors, and has been enforced as such. If drag is illegal in a public park, how would it not be illegal in a public library?
