I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Donald Bradman with the Australian cricket team in England in 1948's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT ⚡ 01:21, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

I am not suggesting that "the" always needs to be used twice in A and B type constructions. Certainly, in stock phrases or in words of closely related meaning, we don't repeat the "the." So, "the moaning and groaning that marked ..." or "the green and yellow pattern so characteristic of ..." are perfectly reasonable constructions. In the latter sense, we could say, "he was the captain and dominant figure of the '48 season," but we are combining three entities here, and the "the" can't be applied to all three ("one of three selectors" already has a numeral pronoun), besides "selectors" is not as closely related to "captain" as "dominant figure" is. You could say, "he was the captain and dominant figure, and one of three selectors," but, in my view, "he was (the) captain, the dominant figure, and one of three selectors of the ..." best captures both the intended meaning and the rhythm of the language.
