Proposed move
It was proposed that this be merged to Desmodus rotundus, the species discussed at
Common vampire bat, due to a reevaluation of the species status (Orihuela, 2011) which found lack of support in the earlier morphological comparison. That is where the current status is up to it seems, so I agree it should be moved.

If it's been synonymized with D. rotundus, we should merge this page into it.--

Hi. I should rephrase, the 2011 revision did a lot of work on the variation in characters of the genus, bats are poorly researched and everything proved unfounded is useful. If no one says otherwise, I will ask for a history merge in a week or two.

Cygnis insignis is this still on your radar? Article Alerts Bot just started reporting pending merges and I see this is still here. I'm fine with just blanking and redirecting--the page history will still be preserved. What do you think?

It is a small thing, but page histories should be merged if easily achieved.
@
Graham87:, hi again mate, I believe this is uncontroversial, should I put in a technical move request or can you help with a merge of this page's history to
Common vampire bat.

Cygnis insignis: A history merge shouldn't be done here ... they're only for cases of cut-and-paste moves, which this isn't. Graham87 02:35, 31 July 2019 (UTC)reply

Graham87: Thanks for the quick reply, just to clarify: the two pages are about the same species concept. This page will be a redirect with 'article' history. I don't understand the distinction between cut paste and blanking a duplicate, leaving two pages with history about the same article, but will follow whatever you advise.

Error in
Template:Reply to: Input contains forbidden characters. If two page histories with overlapping edits are merged together, it can cause extreme confusion when trying to sort out who made which edit. That is why history merges are strictly for cut-and-paste moves. Graham87 05:44, 31 July 2019 (UTC)reply
