I just took out this bit, from the history section:
And restored a simpler sentence that used to be used here:
The removed bit seemed excessively editorialized, what with terms and phrases like "war-like tribe", and "paid penance for their constant looting...", as if they deserved being exterminated, men, women, and children. It was also confusing. What is the "Barclay Sound tribe"? Barclay Sound is on Vancouver Island and was territory of the Nuu-chah-nulth. If this is what is meant and is actually true, it needs to be much clearer. And, is this trying to say the Nuu-chah-nulth were "friends" with the Snohomish? Again, if this is true it needs to be clearer. And then this bit seems to say that the "Barclay Sound Tribe" and the Snohomish attacked and basically exterminated the Chimakum. Everything I've read about this says it was the Suquamish and Klallam who exterminated the Chimakum.
So I replaced this with a previous sentence to that effect. Since the bit I took out cites a source I've made this talk page section. I admit I do not have access to the source citied, but as far as I can tell it is a dubious source: With Pride in Heritage: history of Jefferson County, self-published in 1966. It might be a fine book for certain things, but I'm skeptical on its value for proto-historical Native American stuff. I could be wrong though, thus my making this talk page section.
