File:Brian-chesky.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion
An image used in this article,
File:Brian-chesky.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at
Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?
Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.
If the image is
non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no
fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
This is largely incomprehensible to an ordinary reader and needs rewriting.

Hello, I'm Jakob and I work for
Airbnb. I've created an account so I can suggest updates to Wikipedia articles related to the company, and I've disclosed my conflict of interest on this talk page and on my profile page.
I have worked to get the permission for File:Brian Chesky Airbnb.jpg confirmed via OTRS. I'm now hoping an editor will replace the current infobox image with this one, which is higher quality and more recent.
Will an editor please update the infobox on my behalf? Thanks in advance.

Hello! I'm Charlie and I've taken over from Jakob as
Airbnb's representative on Wikipedia. I've disclosed my conflict of interest and intend to only propose article improvements on Talk pages for editors to review.
For this request, I'd like to propose removing mention of Elissa Patel from the Partner(s) field in the infobox. While I'm struggling to find sourcing specifically confirming their separation, Brian and Elissa are no longer together. Additionally,
Template:Infobox person suggests this field should only be used if the partner is a notable individual. In this case, Elissa Patel does not have a Wikipedia article and therefore should not be linked in the infobox.
Does someone mind updating the article on my behalf? @
Zigzig20s: I see you've helped update the article previously, so I'm hoping you might be able to assist here? Thanks so much!

CU Airbnb: Hi Charlie, I think you make a good point about this not aligning with the guidance on the "partner" parameter at
Template:Infobox person. However, this is still facially relevant information cited to a reliable source, so I am hesitant to remove it from the article altogether. My inclination would be to add it to the body of the article. Since it doesn't fit any of the existing sections, I would suggest creating a new "Personal life" section. What do you think?
Colin M (

It specifically says: "Chesky is not married, though he was previously in a relationship with artist Elissa Patel."
Could we use this to remove the mention? Thank you for your consideration!

CU Airbnb I am hesitant to use it because there is no consensus on the
reliability of Business Insider.

Relationship request
This
edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.
Hi editors, I'm Paul and I work for Airbnb. I am submitting a request to remove mention of the relationship between Elissa Patel and Chesky in the Personal life section. They are no longer together and have not been for some time.
Business Insider mentions in this profile of Chesky that they are no longer together, a specific point they changed in 2020 (
Nov. 5 archive link and
Nov. 19 archive link showing the change). The
Market Realist article appears to have cited Chesky's incorrect Wikipedia article and does not seem to meet reliability standards for biographies, and the Conde Nast Traveler article was published in 2017.
I understand that when my colleague Charlie tried to get this fact removed in 2021 that there were concerns over how reliable Business Insider was. I think for something like this, the article subject should be considered a reliable source based on my reading of
the rules on self-published sources. In this case, Chesky talked about being single on the podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. The discussion specifically comes around the 55 minute mark, with Chesky saying there wasn't "a lot" going on with him romantically around the 55:25 mark and Shepard saying "I don't mean to shame you for being single" at around the 56:40 mark. I hope this is sufficient. Please let me know.

This
edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.
Hello editors, I had some additional requests for the article if anyone was interested. For my first request, I'd like to suggest replacing the second paragraph of the Early life and education section with the following:
^Cite error: The named reference education was invoked but never defined (see the
help page).
(The missing source is the Fortune article already cited earlier)
This does a couple of things, primarily adding that he was captain of the RISD hockey team and condensing the opening sentence. It also removes that he met Joe Gebbia at RISD from this section. In my next request, I plan to ask to add that information back in the opening paragraph of the Career section, where I think it will flow better and allow for better contextual understanding for the reader. Please let me know what you think! Because of my COI I can't make this change myself.

Hi editors, for my next request, I suggest removing the Airbnb subheading and replacing the first three paragraphs with the following:
After graduating from RISD, Chesky moved to
Los Angeles to work as an industrial designer.[1] In October 2007, he moved to
San Francisco to live with RISD classmate
Joe Gebbia.[2] Chesky didn't have enough money to pay his rent, and decided with Gebbia to open their house to short-term renters. His move to San Francisco coincided with the
Industrial Designers Society of America conference, which ran out of hotel rooms. The pair decided to open the house they were renting as a
bed and breakfast, providing air mattresses for guests to sleep on and
Pop-Tarts for breakfast. The business became
Airbnb.[1][2]
^
abCite error: The named reference education was invoked but never defined (see the
help page).
The missing citation is once again the Fortune article already cited in the article.
@
ARandomName123: this is where I suggest adding back content related to Joe Gebbia removed in the last request, with some tweaks that I think help it all flow better. Let me know what you think!

This
edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.
Hi editors, I had another ask. This request is to add a new paragraph about some things that Chesky has been specifically credited for while CEO of Airbnb. I suggest adding the following at the end of the Career section:
Chesky has used
Twitter to personally solicit suggestions for improvements to Airbnb, doing so in 2016 and 2023.[1][2] He is an active Airbnb host and listed his home in San Francisco on the platform in 2022.[3] He spent six months that year staying in Airbnbs, which led to the development of 50 changes to the platform and additional service offerings.[4]
Part of an edit requested by an editor with a
conflict of interest has been implemented.
Hi editors, I wanted to see what you all thought of a series of smaller requests and thought I'd put them all together here.
In the Personal life section:
Change the sentences "As a child, Chesky was interested in art, drawing replicas of paintings, and design, redesigning shoes and toys. He later became interested in landscape architecture and design."
To
As a child, Chesky's first hobby was
hockey. He developed an interest in art in his teens and cited
Leonardo da Vinci as an early inspiration.[1] He drew replicas of paintings and redesigned toys and shoes. In an interview with The New York Times, he said he watched friends of his parents redesign their backyard, which led to an interest in
landscape architecture and later
urban planning.[2]
I think this more accurately reflects information in sourcing.
In the Recognition section, add information related to the following (with sources):
Please let me know what you think! Happy to answer any questions. @
Encoded and

Chesky was named one of the "World's Greatest Leaders" in 2017 by Fortune.[2] He received an honorary doctorate from RISD that year.[3]
As of May 6, 2024, Chesky ranked No. 198 on the Forbes billionaires list.[4]
Philanthropy
Chesky donated $10 million to nonprofit organizations supporting frontline workers during the
coronavirus pandemic in 2020.[5]
In 2022, Chesky was ranked no. 20 by contributions on the list of the 50 most prolific philanthropists in the United States by The Chronicle of Philanthropy.[6]

ARandomName123: thanks so much for doing that. Totally understand not including those two items. Do you think the COVID-19 donation could be attributed to this San Francisco Chronicle article, which states "Gebbia’s donation comes after Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky last month committed to donate $10 million to nonprofits helping health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic." If not, I understand, and really appreciate all your time working on this.
