Name
Does anyone know how Balmy Alley got it's name? Just curious.

Interesting question. Can't find anything offhand. It's in the 1906 maps, but not
1869 (though that area is already platted and Garfield Park appears to already be a park?) —

BTW,
Jooojay the actual name is Balmy Street - any thoughts on how to reflect that in the article (since everyone calls it an alley, except ... the city and the post office :) —

I would think "Balmy Alley (formally known as Balmy Street)" might work?

Good call, done. —

For the record (not citing yet since it is a crappy primary source), here's
the city's official list of street names, which discusses other alleys but calls Balmy "street".—
