As shootings become more common due in part to increase in population, I think we have to consider changing what we define "Mass shooting" I think mass shooting should be defined by 10 or more killed. By the current definition too many shootings are being considered "mass". thoughts?

General discussion of the definition of the term "mass shooting" is not productive in improvement of this particular article. As for why Wikipedia describes this event as a mass shooting, we follow the sources in doing so, as is the overall goal of writing an article on this website.
You may also be interested in the other article on
"mass shootings" which lists several definitions for the term from legislative bodies, universities, etc. All of these definitions are met by the event described in this article.
With regard to your specific proposal, the motivation to redefine "mass shooting" so that there aren't "too many" of them is perverse and backwards from how gathering of statistics should be done.
A mass shooting is commonly defined as an incident in which four or more people are shot or killed. Changing the definition because there are "too many" makes no sense.

Background
@
WWGB: Regarding
1025377798, in interviews, Representative Ro Khanna is citing this planned change as an irony coming on the same day of the shooting. I don't feel strongly about keeping it in the article, though.
Minh Nguyễn💬 07:51, 27 May 2021 (UTC)reply
Thanks, I have removed it.

I am planning to attend the vigil today to take photos, and will try to drive by the rail yard to see if I can take a better one. Please ping me if there's anything specific you'd like me to try and take photos of.

Are you going to upload any of the photos to the article?
KnaveBear (

@
KnaveBear yes! Sorry, I thought that was implied. I will upload all of my photos to Commons and add some (hopefully) good ones to the article itself.

From my experience, it's only appropriate to use if editor traffic for this article is extremely high for a fresh new story.

I would omit all that conflicting text from the article. It seems to be primarily a coatrack for reporting gun violence.Stick to facts that are unequivocal.
WWGB (

All facts cited are from sources on the shooting itself.
WP:COATRACKs are when readers go
WP:OR and bring up "facts" on their own.—

I agree that all this talk about mass shootings in the "Background" section is a little excessive and subject to unnecessary debate due to the nigh-ambiguous definitions being thrown around. The whole tidbit should be removed.

The essence of the paragraph is that it's the mth mass shooting according to one source and the nth according to another; the article can simply say so, noting that the sources have different definitions. –
Minh Nguyễn💬 01:36, 29 May 2021 (UTC)reply
But do we really need to describe the numbers? It doesn't sound like noteworthy information to me.
Love of Corey (

So there were either "610 mass shootings" or "2 mass shootings" in 2020, depending on the source? Utterly confusing for the reader, and unclear what point is being made. Was it a good year or a bad year? And what has past history got to do with Cassidy's decision to shoot up his workplace? Most of that paragraph should be removed as confusing and irrelevant.

Couldn't have said that better myself.

Trying to expand the article I found
this on the California Birth Index. Could that be him? Everything seems to fit, including his age. Thank you and my apologies in case my efforts to expand the article result fruitless.

Love of Corey: Regarding
Special:Diff/1027645678, many of the cited sources, especially the local sources, bring up the
Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting as the previous mass shooting in the area. I'd concede that this fact is only locally relevant, but it is useful background for the discussion further down about Liccardo's legislative proposal.
Minh Nguyễn💬 19:28, 9 June 2021 (UTC)reply
The "aftermath and reactions" section mentions the Gilroy shooting again, though, so keeping it in the "background" section as well seems redundant to me.
Love of Corey (

OK, I worked in some additional detail to that mention.
