History

Southern Pacific 1269 was retired on February 1957, then was donated to the City of Richmond and placed on static display in a new city park. [1] [2]

On September 23, 1978, the locomotive was removed from display by group of people deciding to restore the locomotive into operating condition, and on October 13, 1978, it arrived at Point Molate in Richmond on the Richmond Belt Line, where the locomotive would be restored to operating condition. [3] On November 1979, the locomotive did a test run under steam, and on June 22, 1980 the locomotive was returned to service with a first run in Richmond. [4] [5]

In May 1981, SP 1269 participated at Railfair 1981. [5] [6] By 1984 it was the standby locomotive to Southern Pacific 4466 running excursion trains at the California State Railroad Museum. [7] In May 1991, it participated at Railfair 1991. [8] [9] [10]

In 1994, No. 1269 moved to the Niles Canyon Railway, where it operated for two years. [5] It is now in storage at the railway. [11]
