Singapennae or Singappenne ( transl. A woman as brave as a lioness) is an Indian Tamil-language television series starring Maneesha Mahesh, Darshak Gowda, Amal Jith and directed by Dhanush Krishna. This series premiered on 9 October 2023 Sun TV from Monday to Saturday and It is also available on the digital platform Sun NXT. It is the top most watched serial of Tamil Nadu.

Plot

The series depicts the story of Anandhi, a brave village girl. Due to financial troubles in her family, Anandhi comes to Chennai to work in a garments company.

Production

Development

On July end 2023, Sun TV confirmed that it would distribute new Tamil serial, to be produced by Miracle Media. [1] The series shoot began in August 2023 and the first promo was released on 18 September 2023. The show is directed by Dhanush Krishna. [2]

Casting

Newcomer actress Maneesha Mahesh was cast as the female lead Anandhi, [3] Darshak Gowda was cast as the male lead role, marking his return after 'Arunthathi' . Amal Jith plays the Second male lead alongside her, marking his return after Amman. Actress Rama play of the role of Pechiyamma, [4] as mother of Anandhi. G. Gnanasambandam was cast as Azhagappan as father of Anandhi.

In October 2023, VJ Bavithra was cast as Mithira (Main Antogonist). [5] In November 2023, Rekha Angelina was cast as Manimegalai. [6]

Release

The first promo was released on 18 September 2023 featuring Maneesha Mahesh and Rama. [7] The second promo was unveiled on 30 September 2023, [8] and The third promo was unveiled on 2 October 2023, featuring Maneesha Mahesh tell the story and revealing the release date. [9]

The show started airing on Sun TV on 9 October 2023, replacing Vanathai Pola time slot. [10] This series was launched along with Zee Tamil's series Nala Damayanthi and Sandhya Raagam. [11]

Reception

The show got a TVR of 10.28 on launching week on 9 October 2023. On its Launch week it became the Top 5 serial of Sun TV. [12]

Trp Ratings

Singapennae became one of the most watched Tamil television programs in 2023. In January 2024, the series was the first most watched Tamil-language television series with 11.88 TVR [13]
