Crown Uzama[4] (born April 12, 2000), known professionally as Shallipopi, is a Nigerian singer, rapper, and songwriter. He rose to prominence with his single "Elon Musk".[5][6][7] His debut studio album Presido La Pluto (2023) peaked at number one on the
TurnTable Top 50 chart[8] and debuted atop Apple Music top 100 albums.[9][10]
Uzama's debut extended play, Planet Pluto (2023), peaked at number two on the Turntable 100[11] and contained six songs which charted on the
TurnTable chart.[12] His second studio album, Shakespopi (2024), was met with continued success as it became Shallipopi's second chart-topping album, also spawning his first number-one single, "ASAP".[13]
Career
Shallipopi started his career making freestyles, and posting them on
TikTok and other social media platforms. He made a breakthrough with the release of his single "Elon Musk".[14]
On 20 June 2023,
Apple Music announced Shallipopi as the latest featured artist in its Up Next artist development program in Nigeria.[15][16] On 30 June, he released the remix of "Elon Musk" featuring
Fireboy DML and
Zlatan.[17][18]
On 7 July 2023, he released the single "Ex-Convict", which debuted at number 6 on the TurnTable Top 100.[19][20] On 11 July 2023 his EP Planet Pluto.[21]
On 17 October 2023, he launched his own record label after signing to Dvpper Music Distribution with his music acts Zerry DL and Tega Boi. Shallipopi signed them the day he launched the record label.[22][23]
On 30 May 2023 the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Shallipopi, his manager and others for alleged Internet-related fraud.[25][26] Shallipopi, his manager and others were convicted on 23 June 2023 and sentenced to two years imprisonment with the "option of fines".[27]
