Patrick Arnold Shriver Schwarzenegger (born September 18, 1993) is an American actor. He is the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver.

Early life and family

Schwarzenegger was born at Providence St John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California and raised in Los Angeles, California. He is the oldest son of Maria Shriver, journalist, author and member of the Kennedy family; and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Austrian-born bodybuilder, actor, and former Governor of California. [1] Schwarzenegger has two older sisters, Katherine and Christina, [2] a younger brother, Christopher, [3] and a younger paternal half-brother, Joseph. [4] [5] His maternal grandparents were activist Eunice Kennedy Shriver and diplomat and politician Sargent Shriver.

Schwarzenegger holds dual Austrian-American citizenship, speaks English and a little German, [6] regularly visits Austria and maintains a strong connection to his father's native country. [7] His cousin, also named Patrick Schwarzenegger, lost his father (Arnold's brother) in a car accident in 1971 and is now an attorney.

Acting career

At the age of ten, Schwarzenegger had a small role in the film The Benchwarmers. Throughout his childhood, he practiced acting with his father, and through his young adult years, he studied theater at USC while taking acting classes weekly at Nancy Banks Studio. [8] At age 15 he started a clothing line. [9]

Patrick is also signed with LA Models, which had plans to push him for Ralph Lauren and Armani ad campaigns. [10] He has stated that he hopes to raise awareness of his clothing company by taking on high-profile modeling jobs. [9]

Schwarzenegger had supporting roles in 2012's Stuck in Love, 2013's Grown Ups 2 and 2015's Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. His first leading role was opposite Bella Thorne in 2018's Midnight Sun, a romantic drama about a teenage girl with a rare medical condition, which went on to gross over 27 million dollars worldwide. [11] His performance in the 2019 horror Daniel Isn't Real was praised as "excellent" [12] and played with "a playful intensity similar to his father" [13] and "a restraint unusual in actors his age". [14] In 2020, Schwarzenegger worked opposite Academy Award winner Michael Shannon in Echo Boomers,[ citation needed] then in 2021, went to star in Netflix's comedy-drama coming-of-age film Moxie. [15]

In 2022, Schwarzenegger starred in the HBO true crime mini-series, The Staircase, alongside Colin Firth and Toni Collette. [16] In it, he portrays Todd Peterson, the son of Michael Peterson, whose wife dies under mysterious circumstances.

It was announced in 2022 that Schwarzenegger was joining the cast of The Boys spinoff series, Gen V, on Prime Video. He's set to play a young man with superpowers called Golden Boy, described as "a 22-year-old big name on campus who possesses thermonuclear power and pure charisma." [17]

Business and entrepreneurship

Throughout Schwarzenegger's childhood, his father and mother played an influential role in developing his exposure to business and entrepreneurship, including setting up lemonade stands to teach him about profit margins, costs of operations, and other business lessons. Arnold Schwarzenegger gave his son the responsibility of selling his acting memorabilia to raise funds for charity. [18]

In 2011 and 2012, Schwarzenegger interned for Academy Award-nominated producer, John Davis ( Waterworld, Alien vs. Predator, I, Robot), after his Wetzel's Pretzels exit, while he was investing in a new idea that was then positioned as "the Subway of pizza." Blaze Pizza became Schwarzenegger's first investment.

Schwarzenegger went on to franchise his own Blaze Pizza locations, [19] including one at USC while he was a student there, and one at The Grove in Los Angeles. Patrick Schwarzenegger later sold his Blaze Pizza shares and began investing in young entrepreneurs who were creating companies to meet the demand for healthier food and beverage alternatives. [20]

Some of Schwarzenegger's other investments include electrolyte drink mix company Liquid I.V., [21] protein coffee brand Super Coffee, [22] and vegan chicken company Nuggs. [23]

In 2020, Schwarzenegger and his mother, who is an advocate for people living with Alzheimer's, [24] created brain nutrition and wellness brand MOSH. [25] The company, whose name stands for Maria Owings Shriver Health, officially launched on World Alzheimer's Day. [26] [27] Jonathan Jarry at the Office for Science and Society pointed out the ingredients used in the MOSH bar do not conclusively improve brain health. [28]

Personal life

While studying at Brentwood High School, Schwarzenegger took private acting lessons with Nancy Banks. [29] In 2012, he matriculated at the University of Southern California, and graduated from the USC Marshall School of Business with a minor in Cinematic Arts in May 2016. [30] He was part of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. [29] Since 2015, he has been in a relationship with model Abby Champion [31] and on December 26, 2023, announced their engagement. [32]
