The locality was officially named and bounded on 29 May 1998. [2]
Oakdale State School opened on 10 August 1916 and closed in 1941. [3] It was on the north-east corner of Gessler and Crownthorpe Roads ( 26°11′56″S 151°54′37″E / 26.1989°S 151.9102°E). [4]
