McConnell or McConnel is an Irish and Scottish surname.

Gaelic Mac Dhòmhnaill (see
MacDonnell ).
[2] Alternatively in Ireland, it may be derived from Mac Conaill meaning 'son of Conall', a given name composed of the elements con (from cú meaning 'hound') and gal (meaning 'valour').
