Mary Shanna Croughan is an American epidemiologist and academic administrator serving as the provost and executive vice chancellor of the University of California, Davis since 2020.
Croughan earned a B.S. in community health from the University of California, Davis. [1] She completed a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. [1] Her 1987 dissertation was titled, Morbidity Among Breech Infants According to Method of Delivery. [2]
Croughan researches reproductive and perinatal epidemiology. [1] She was a faculty member at UCSF School of Medicine from 1987 to 2010 where she co-directed the required course in epidemiology and biostatistics for twelve years. [1] [3] From 2007 to 2009, she was vice chair and chair of the University of California's academic senate and on the Regents of the University of California. [1] From 2010 to 2017, she served as the executive director of the research grants program office in the University of California's office of the president. [3] From July 31, 2017, to 2019, Croughan was the vice president for research and economic development at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. [3] [4] In 2020, she was a professor in its school of public health. [3] Croughan became the provost and executive vice chancellor of University of California, Davis in July 2020. [3] She succeeded Ralph J. Hexter. [5] Croughan is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. [6]
