As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprised of eight schools, had an enrollment of 4,784 students and 440.5 classroom teachers (on an
FTE basis), for a
student–teacher ratio of 10.9:1.[1]
The district is classified by the
New Jersey Department of Education as being in
District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common
socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[4]
The district has eight school facilities: one pre-school, five elementary schools and two middle schools. The schools in the district (with 2018–19 enrollment data from the

Preschool
David C. Abbott Early Learning Center[16] with 226 students (opened 2002) serves
kindergarten and
preschoolspecial education. The latter group had in prior years been taught in the original "one room" Robertsville School built in 1832; this building still stands, down the road from the current Robertsville Elementary School.

Marlboro Middle School[24] with 1,042 students in grades 6-8, opened in 1976 and is home of the Hawks.
The Marlboro Mavericks is a wrestling team jointly shared by the two middle schools. Founded in 2004, they have a franchise record of 33–6, with three Divisional Championships, along with two consecutive tournament championships and in 2005–2006 had a perfect 12–0 record in dual meets.[26]

Board of education
The district's
board of education, comprised of nine members, sets policy and oversees the fiscal and educational operation of the district through its administration. As a Type II school district, the board's trustees are elected directly by voters to serve three-year terms of office on a staggered basis, with three seats up for election each year held (since 2013) as part of the November general election. The board appoints a superintendent to oversee the district's day-to-day operations and a business administrator to supervise the business functions of the district.[29][30][31]
