Lyn Lapid (born October 24, 2002) is an American singer-songwriter. She is a member of vocal collective EARCANDY. [1] She also plays the guitar and ukulele. [1] [2]

Biography

Early life

Lapid is a first-generation Filipino-American born to naturalized American citizens who immigrated from the Philippines. [3] [4] She studied classical piano and played violin in an orchestra for seven years before starting to make covers. She attended Atholton High School.

Career

Lapid began releasing covers on YouTube and Instagram in 2018. [2] She began writing original songs in February 2020. [2]

In late 2020, Lapid gained popularity for her song "Producer Man", which is about her experience with a bad music producer. [5] She released it on TikTok, line by verse, a capella, accompanied solely by her beating fists and snapping fingers. The lyrics painted a picture of exploitation that was as old as the music industry itself. [2] She is signed to Republic Records. [2] Her contract was transferred to Mercury Records, a split of Republic Records. [6]

In January 2022, she was named as one of Shazam's top 5 artists to watch in 2022. [3] [7] She was featured in amplifyHER, a United Nations podcast. [8]

Influences

Lapid cites fellow Filipino artists Jessica Sanchez and 4th Impact as influences. [9]
