Live Phish Vol. 17 was recorded live at
Portland Meadows in
Portland, Oregon , on July 15, 1998. It was the first of a series of four concerts picked by
Mike Gordon to release. Except for
Live Phish Volume 20 , the releases include his journal entries about the shows in the booklet.
This was the first concert on the band's US leg of their 1998 summer tour. The bonus track is a very popular version of "Bathtub Gin" recorded live at the Riverport Amphitheater in
Maryland Heights, Missouri , a suburb of
St. Louis .
