Leary is a city in Calhoun County, Georgia, United States. The population was 524 in 2020.
Leary is located in southeastern Calhoun County at 31°29′8″N 84°30′48″W / 31.48556°N 84.51333°W (31.485431, -84.513293). [4] It is 24 miles (39 km) southwest of Albany and 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Morgan, the county seat.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Leary has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.3 km2), of which 0.008 square miles (0.02 km2), or 0.20%, is water. [5]
On October 2, 1916, a woman named Connelly, whose son was accused of murder, was taken from the Leary jail and lynched. Her body, riddled with bullets was found two days later. [6]
