Tay Foo Wei ( Chinese: 郑福威; pinyin: Zhèng Fúwēi, born 4 June 1982), better known as Chao Ah Gua, is a Singaporean online personality and wrestling enthusiast.

Tay first came to the public eye when he auditioned for Singapore Idol in 2006, and would be later known for carrying a World Wrestling Entertainment belt and participating in a street fight. [1]

At the age of 27, Tay travelled to Bangkok, Thailand to have breast implants. [2] However, after his mother expressed concerns regarding his breast implants, he decided to remove the implants entirely after 3 years. [3]

In June 2019, Tay was fired from his job as a security officer at the Bank of Singapore after a member of the public emailed the Bank of Singapore with regards to his "inappropriate" online activities, including an instance where he used the bank's premises to film an explicit video about his interest in BDSM as well as some pornographic content. [4]

In July 2022, Tay met up with one of his "haters", later identified as Loh Jia Hung, for a sparring match. They first met at Yishun MRT station before proceeding to spar at one of the void decks in the vicinity. [5] [6] This resulted in Tay being put under a police probe. [7]

Education

Tay studied in the Normal (Academic) stream in secondary school, however he only passed two subjects in his GCE 'O' Level examinations. After secondary school, he enrolled in the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) but dropped out after about a month. [8]

Professional career

In 2010, Tay founded his own company, "4ever Escort Agency" [9] in Yishun, Singapore. However, Tay claims that the business went under shortly after, citing fierce competition and gambling losses as the causes. [10]

In 2012, he produced a music video titled "Li Ni Er Qu" ( Chinese: 离你而去; pinyin: Lí Nǐ Ér Qù, [11] composed by his colleague at KBox. [12]

In 2013, Tay created a Youtube channel of the same name. As of February 2024, he has accumulated over 5,000 followers and posted over 12,000 videos. [13]

Charges

On 1 November 2023, Tay was charged in the State Courts of Singapore for allegedly distributing an intimate photo and video of a woman performing a sex act without the woman's consent, sending them to users in Telegram and in two chat groups. [14] [15] He returned to court on 16 November to face the charges. [16]

On 11 December, it was announced that Tay would be facing more charges. However, as the prosecution was not ready, the case was adjourned for four weeks to January 2024. Tay also hired a lawyer, Rohit Kumar Singh from Regal Law. [1] On 10 January, his additional charges were read out. This included a harassment-related charge for Tay purportedly asking for help with hiring a killer and saying he wanted someone to die "ASAP", also using vulgarities in his message. [15]

On multiple occasions, Tay was heckled when he emerged from the State Courts' front doors. [17] [1] [16] Through his lawyer, Tay mentioned that the harassing and heckling had caused grief to his family, and he would be making police reports. [15]

Cases of harassment against Tay

Kurt Tay had been a victim of harassment by the members of the public on multiple occasions.

In 2015 and early 2016, a group of three men, Singaporeans Aaron James Ang Jian Hian, Royston Chua Wei Kwang, and Malaysian Patrick Chong distributed flyers containing nude photos of Tay at Tay's HDB block in Yishun as well as Northpoint City where Tay worked. Ang and Chua were later charged and sentenced to six months and five months' imprisonment respectively. [18] [19]

In 2019, a person impersonating a Mediacorp staff invited Tay for an interview, as well as to film an episode of a comedy series, at the Mediacorp TV station. However when Tay showed up at the TV station, he was denied entry. Tay filed a police report. [20]

Personal life

In 2013, Tay married Kim Ngan, a mail-order bride from Vietnam. They had a son in 2018 and a daughter in 2021. [21]
