Ksheera Sagaraya Kalabina (KSK), (The Milky Ocean Churned: Sinhala: ක්ෂීර සාගරය කැලඹිණ) is a 2023 Sri Lankan Sinhala political, [6] magical realism film directed by Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne and produced by H.D. Premasiri for Sarasavi Cineru. [7] It is the film adaptation of a novel by same name written by Simon Navagattegama. [8] [4] The film stars Jackson Anthony, Udari Warnakulasooriya and Hemal Ranasinghe in lead roles and Gihan Fernando, Sarath Kothalawala, Harini Kawyanjani and debutant Raween Kanishka made supporting roles. The film marked 24th cinematic direction of Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne. [19] [20] According to the director Prof. Ariyaratne, he had an idea to make the film with the first copy gave by writer Simon Navagattegama on August 27, 1989. [7] Later Navagattegama gave the copyrights to director Ananda Abeynayake in 1995 to direct the movie. [8] Since there was no any further intentions to direct the film, Prof. Ariyaratne obtained copyright and commence production of the film. [21] The shooting commenced amidst the COVID-19 outbreak and had several delays. The Muhurath ceremony was held on 21 January 2021. [7] [22] However, budget for the film was around 600 million and shooting completed within 45 days in and around Ranminithenna Tele Cinema village. [5] [9] [23]
The film is produced by H.D. Premasiri and assistant co-production done by Chandri Haputhanthri, Chandu Haputhanthri and Kumuduni Dias Haputhanthri. [8] Channa Deshapriya is the cinematographer whereas Ajith Ramanayake is the editor and AD Ranjith Kumar is the production supervisor. [24] Art Direction done by Dhammika Hewaduwaththa, costume designed by Venuka Yasas Sri Wickramaarachchi and Priyantha Dissanayake is the makeup artist. [4] Nimal Wijesiri contributed with production management and Wimal Deshapriya is the assistant director. [7] Sasika Ruwan Marasinghe is the sound designer and stunts managed by Osanda Saman Kumara. [25] Ananda Bandara is the colorist and Kapila Palihawadana made the choreography. [26] The music direction was done by maestro Rohana Weerasinghe and veteran songstress Nanda Malini made background vocals. [9]
