Located north of Aleppo, the town is administratively part of Nahiya Tell Rifaat in A'zaz District. Nearby localities include Mayer to the southwest. During the Syrian Civil War, Kafr Naya was conquered by the Islamic State (IS) [3] but eventually captured by the Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in 2016, [4] bringing it into the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. The area is sometimes targeted by militants backed by Turkey. [5] [6] [7]
