Gerber was born in Yelisavetgrad,
Russian Empire (now
Kropyvnytskyi ,
Ukraine ).

Houston, Texas ,
[5] where he died in a hospital at age 74.

Gerber was inducted into the
ACBL Hall of Fame in 1998.
