PMC Isochem is a French chemical company that was established in 1974 that specializes in custom chemical synthesis.

Timeline and history

  • 1974: Isochem was created in Gennevilliers.
  • 1977: A site was opened in Pithiviers (formerly Agrifarm), in central France.
  • 1979: The company was audited and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the first time.
  • 1990: Isochem joined the Groupe SNPE, a French holding company that specializes in explosives.
  • 1991: Isochem acquired the Vert-le-Petit site (formerly IRCHA Fine Chemicals and Propeptide). [1]
  • 2003: Isochem acquired the Pont-de-Claix platform and the Hungarian subsidiary Framochem.
  • 2010: Isochem was acquired by the German industrial holding company Aurelius AG [ de]. [2]
  • 2012: Isochem acquired Wychem ( UK). [3], [4]
  • 2014: Isochem sold its Framochem subsidiary.
  • 2016: Isochem sold its Wychem subsidiary.
  • 2017: PMC Group France, a wholly owned subsidiary of PMC Group International Inc., announced the acquisition of Isochem. This resulted in the name change to PMC Isochem. [5]

In its early days, Isochem mainly specialized in the extraction and semi-synthesis of natural substances, such as quinine.

In the 1990s, Isochem collaborated with Groupe SNPE (Société Nationale des Poudres et Explosifs) to implement technologies such as phosgenation, [6] nitration, and the manufacture of amino-acid derivatives such as NCAs, [7], [8] UNCAs, and peptides. [9], [10]

Now, Isochem has expanded to the field of multistep industrial production [11], encompassing operations including Grignard, Friedel-Crafts, Sandmeyer, Vilsmeier-Haack Reaction, deprotonation using butyllithium, and reduction using metal hydrides and hydrogenation. [12]

Industrial sites and specific expertise

Isochem's industrial sites include:

Most sites have a research and development team; in addition, the Vert-le-Petit site has the equipment required to study process safety. [15]
