British pastor and author (born 1931)
Iain Hamish Murray (born 19 April 1931) is a British pastor and author who co-founded the Reformed publishing house, the
Banner of Truth Trust .
Early life
Iain Murray was born on 19 April 1931.
[1] He was educated in the
Isle of Man at
King William's College . Murray was converted in 1949.

In the summer of 1950 he was commissioned in the
Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)

rifle regiment of the British Army, serving in Singapore and Malaya in the suppression of the communist insurgency known as the "
Malayan Emergency ". He transferred to the Army reserve in 1955
[4] and resigned his commission the following year.

After his military service, Murray studied Philosophy and History at the
University of Durham , graduating with a
BA in 1954.
[6] In 1955 he married Jean Ann Walters and became assistant minister at St. John's Free Church, Summertown, Oxford.

Christian work
Murray served as assistant to
Martyn Lloyd-Jones at
Westminster Chapel
[9] (1956–59) and subsequently at Grove Chapel,
London (1961–69) and St. Giles Presbyterian Church,
Sydney ,
Australia , (1981–84). In 1957 he and Jack Cullum founded the Reformed publishing house, the
Banner of Truth Trust ,
[10] for which he remains a trustee.
Murray and his wife live in
Edinburgh ,
Scotland .
