At the 2006 National Census, its population was 2,556 in 534 households, when it was a village in the former Jazmurian District of
Rudbar-e Jonubi County).[5] The following census in 2011 counted 4,091 people in 878 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 6,835 people in 1,793 households,[2] by which time the village (after merging with the villages of Amirabad, Cheraghabad-e Zeh-e Kalut, Hasanabad-e Zeh-e Kalut, and Hoseynabad-e Zeh-e Kalut) had been elevated to the status of a city.[7]
In 2023, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Jazmurian County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Zeh-e Kalut as the new county's capital and only city.[4]
