Gutierrezia is a genus of flowering plants in the sunflower family, native to western North America and western South America. [4] Plants of this genus are known generally as snakeweeds or matchweeds. [5] [1] [6] [7] [8] [9] Some species have been called greasewood. [10] They are annual or perennial plants or subshrubs with yellow or white flowers. [4]

These plants contain chemical compounds which can be toxic to livestock and some are considered weeds. [11]
