Misplacement?

Judging by Google Maps ( [1], [2]), Hawaii should be more to the south than seen in this map. The map to the right shows a similar difference.

I thought it's just an illusion caused by the projection of the earth on a flat surface, but this map looks more like the first image than the second. Is that a mistake? 84.108.121.108 ( talk) 00:04, 16 October 2016 (UTC) reply

No. This isn't a mistake. It's the projection. Grid lines would illustrate this. I didn't want to display those. The maps covers such a wide area that distortions are not exactly small. In both maps Hawaii is on the same latitude. It's just that latitude lines are very counterintuitive.
