Description On Guadalcanal, U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant John Davis examines the wreckage of a U.S. Navy Grumman TBF-1 Avenger, flown by Ensign Albert K. Earnest during his service with Torpedo Squadron 8 (VT-8) during the campaign for the embattled island. Note the silhouette of a torpedo hit scored during the Battle of the Eastern Solomons in August 1942.
