Innere Stadt. Die 21 Meter hohe barocke Säule wurde nach eine Pestepidemie mit wahrscheinlich etwa 100.000 Toten von Kaiser Leopold I. gestiftet und am 29. Oktober 1693, dem Dreifaltigkeitstag, geweiht. Das komplizierte ikonographische Programm entwarf der Jesuitenpater Franciscus Menegatti, der spätere Beichtvater von Kaiser Leopold I. An dem Projekt wirkten zahlreiche Architekten und Bildhauer mit, unter anderem: Joseph Frühwirth, Matthias Rauchmüller, Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, Paul Strudel, Lodovico Ottavio Burnacini, Johann Ignaz Bendl, Tobias Kracker der Ältere. |
