Portrait of Major Stanislaw Jakub Skarzynski (1899-1942) Annotation: Skarzynsky made a successful solo flight over the Atlantic in 1933 in a single-engine plane from Saint Louis in Senegal to Maceio in Brazil. After the German invasion of Poland he became Commanding Officer of the Polish Flying Schools of the British RAF. He also took an active part in air operations over Germany. In 1942 he was killed in an emergency landing on the North Sea. He found his last resting place on the Dutch Wadden island of Terschelling. |
